The steam from the scalding water had long since fogged the kitchen window, blurring the outside world into an indistinct watercolor as I stood beside Keiran’s wife, Nina. Our fingers, slick with soap, would occasionally brush against one another in the warm, sudsy water, sending a jolt through my entire system. She was telling a story about her day, her voice a low, melodic hum that seemed to vibrate in the tiny space between our shoulders.
