The morning sun cast a harsh light on the “Heavenly Touch Spa,” a place Kalina Ryu was beginning to suspect was anything but divine. Her first day as a massage therapist trainee had started with a confusingly vague orientation from the manager, Morgan Lee, a woman whose smile seemed permanently fixed yet never quite reached her calculating eyes. The initial client was a portly, nervous man whose file simply listed “deep tissue,” but his furtive glances suggested he expected a very different kind of service. Morgan had simply winked, whispering cryptic instructions about “fulfilling the client’s unspoken needs” before disappearing into the back office. Kalina’s hands trembled as she applied the scented oil, her standard Swedish strokes clearly failing to meet the client’s impatient expectations. From the adjacent room, she could hear the booming, charismatic voice of Keiran Lee, Morgan’s husband and co-manager, effortlessly charming another customer with suggestive banter. This created a chaotic symphony of mismatched expectations, where Kalina’s legitimate techniques were met with audible sighs of disappointment. Her attempt to properly stretch a hamstring was abruptly interrupted by the client’s own wandering, unprofessional hands, causing her to jump back in alarm. A sudden, sharp knock on the door was followed by Morgan’s stern face, her previously pleasant demeanor now replaced with cold, silent fury over the disrupted session.
