Down in Unit 3B, Diamond Kitty was applying a final coat of vibrant red polish to her nails, completely unconcerned with the financial formalities of tenancy. The sharp rap on her door was both expected and unwelcome, interrupting the soulful playlist floating from her wireless speaker. She swung the door open to reveal Cris, his posture rigid and a ledger clutched tightly in his hand, his expression all business. “We need to talk about your outstanding balance, Diamond; it’s a week past due,” he stated, his voice a low, firm command that brooked no argument. A sly, almost predatory smile graced Diamond’s lips as she leaned against the doorframe, completely unintimidated by his display of authority. “Oh, I think you’ll find my payment is more than satisfactory, Cris,” she purred, her eyes glinting with a dangerous mixture of amusement and cunning. She then presented him not with a check, but with a single, grainy photograph that made the blood drain from his face in an instant. The property dispute had just escalated from a simple financial matter into a high-stakes game of blackmail, and Cris suddenly realized he was dangerously out of his depth.
