The morning sun cast long, distorted shadows as Officer Sarah Vandella began her patrol, the familiar weight of her duty belt a constant comfort. Her partner, the perpetually frazzled Mikey Butders, fumbled with a crumpled map, his brow furrowed in exaggerated confusion. “Are you even sure this is the right precinct, Vandella?” he mumbled, casting a suspicious glance at a perfectly ordinary fire hydrant. Sarah merely sighed, her sharp eyes scanning the quiet suburban streets for any sign of the unusual chaos that seemed to follow them. A distant, high-pitched whirring sound suddenly cut through the calm, a noise Mikey immediately identified as a “class five pastry-napping in progress.” Before she could question his absurd conclusion, a chrome-plated drone zipped past, clutching a pink box of donuts in its mechanical claws. With a groan, Sarah slammed the accelerator, the patrol car lurching forward as Mikey whooped with glee, already drafting a dramatic incident report in his head. The drone swerved down a narrow alleyway, its metallic shell glinting mockingly in the bright light, a trail of powdered sugar dusting the asphalt behind it. Mikey leaned precariously out the window, brandishing his novelty-sized net and yelling what he believed were official police negotiation tactics. Officer Vandella gripped the wheel, a small, resigned smile touching her lips, knowing this was just another profoundly strange day on duty.
