Living with my best friend Xander had always been a blast, a perfect equilibrium of shared video games and mutual respect for each other’s space. That comfortable dynamic, however, was completely upended the moment he introduced his new girlfriend, Luna, who seemed to move in by stealthy degrees. Her presence, once a novelty, has become a constant, suffocating force that permeates every corner of our previously peaceful apartment. I’ll admit she’s objectively stunning, with a magnetic charm that my friend Andi Avalon, who visits often, even finds a bit intimidating. Luna has this uncanny ability to command any room, effortlessly diverting all of Xander’s attention with a mere pout or a whispered joke. Our legendary movie nights are now curated by her, our inside jokes have been replaced with her anecdotes, and even the fridge is stocked with her peculiar health foods. The final straw was when I overheard them planning a weekend trip to a cabin, a tradition that was sacredly ours, and my name wasn’t even mentioned. I feel like a ghost in my own home, my thunder utterly stolen by this vivacious intruder who treats my life like her personal stage. My friend Andi tells me I need to speak up, but confronting Xander feels like risking our entire friendship over my petty jealousy. I’m just left wondering if our bromance can ever recover from the whirlwind that is Luna Star.
