The oppressive summer heat had rendered the old Victorian house an unbearable sauna, leaving me listless and sticky on the rumpled sheets. My salvation arrived not on a white horse, but with the confident, grinning entrance of Erik Everhard, a man whose very presence seemed to command the stagnant air to move. He was a vision of rugged capability, his tool belt slung low on his hips like a gunslinger’s holster, promising a very specific kind of repair. With a playful wink, he assessed the situation, his eyes lingering on my flushed skin before turning to the antique, temperamental plumbing. My roommate Sindy, equally affected by the sweltering conditions, fanned herself nearby, a silent and appreciative audience to the impending drama. Erik’s strong, knowing hands worked with a practiced precision, tightening, adjusting, and coaxing the stubborn pipes back to life. A deep, guttural groan echoed through the walls, a prelude to the miraculous release we all desperately craved. Then it happened: a powerful, unexpected geyser of gloriously cool water erupted from the showerhead, a torrential downpour right in the middle of the bedroom. Sindy squealed with a mixture of shock and pure delight, her clothes instantly plastered to her body as she stepped into the deluge. I could only laugh in stunned, euphoric relief, watching my knight in squirting armor stand triumphant amidst the beautiful, chaotic flood he had so masterfully unleashed.
