Across the small table, Lichelle Marie was the picture of serene concentration, her brow slightly furrowed as her pen flew across a page of neatly organized notecards. The only sounds were the gentle scratch of her pen, the occasional rustle of a turning page, and the soft hum of the laptop between them. After a long moment of silence, Kurt let out a low, frustrated sigh and pushed the heavy textbook away from him. “I think my brain is officially full,” he announced, a wry smile touching his lips as he glanced toward Lichelle. She looked up from her work, her expression shifting from deep thought to warm amusement at his familiar declaration of mental exhaustion. “You said that an hour ago, and yet you’re still here,” she reminded him softly, her voice a calming counterpoint to his feigned exasperation. “That’s only because your note-taking is slightly more decipherable than this academic jargon,” he retorted, tapping a finger on the offending book with a playful grin. Lichelle simply shook her head, a fond smile gracing her features as she slid one of her meticulously crafted notecards across the table toward him. In that quiet, shared space, the daunting task of studying felt less like a solitary chore and more like a companionable journey they were undertaking together.
