Plea for Mercy: Scene #1 The room was small and dimly lit, with a single overhead light casting a harsh glow across the surface of the old wooden table. On it sat two people, one in a black leather chair facing away from me, while the other knelt on the floor at their feet, head bowed low in supplication. I couldn’t see their faces, but could hear the desperate pleas for mercy coming from the kneeling figure. Their voice was soft and trembling, barely above a whisper as they begged for forgiveness, for understanding, for any sign of compassion. The other person remained silent, unmoving save for the occasional twitch of their shoulders as they appeared to be struggling with some internal turmoil. I felt a sense of dread wash over me, knowing that this scene could only end in tragedy. And yet, despite my fears, I found myself drawn to them, unable to tear my eyes away from the tableau before me.
