The room hummed with a tension so thick it felt like a physical presence, pressing in from all sides as the scent of old leather and faint cologne mingled in the air. His gaze was a slow, deliberate caress, tracing the line of her jaw before dropping to the vulnerable column of her throat where a pulse fluttered like a trapped bird.
