The familiar crunch of gravel in the driveway sent a jolt of pure panic through the house, signaling that Mom was home hours early. Cris Commando, mid-sip of a stolen beer, froze with the bottle hovering just inches from his lips, his eyes wide with alarm. Across the room, Megan Foxx, who had been meticulously painting her nails a rebellious shade of midnight black, let out a tiny, startled gasp. The evidence of their forbidden party was everywhere, a chaotic tapestry of teenage rebellion laid bare. With a shared, frantic glance, they launched into a desperate, silent ballet of concealment, moving with a speed born of sheer terror. Cris snatched up empty pizza boxes and soda cans, shoving them deep into the overflowing kitchen trash under a layer of coffee grounds.
