The golden afternoon light streamed through the bay window of their new Craftsman-style home, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air like tiny, excited fairies. Xander Corvus, ever the charismatic instigator, had already christened the sprawling, empty living room by attempting to slide across the polished hardwood floors in his socks. Misty Stone’s melodic laughter echoed off the bare walls as she watched his clumsy, yet enthusiastic, celebration of their new space. “You’re going to put a hole in the floor before we even have a couch to sit on!” she chided, her hands planted firmly on her hips in mock disapproval. Undeterred, Xander swept her into a spontaneous waltz, their movements a little clumsy without music but filled with an undeniable, joyful energy. The scent of fresh paint and pine from the moving boxes created a unique perfume, the very aroma of new beginnings and shared dreams.
