Ricky sighed, setting down his iced tea with a resigned clink, knowing this “Poolside Paws” situation was now his to resolve. He pushed himself up from the lounger just as Ember, with a final, desperate scramble, launched herself from the edge and landed in the deep end with an unceremonious plop. A moment of stunned silence was followed by a flurry of bubbles and a bewildered, sodden head breaking the surface, her elaborate fur now flattened into a soggy rat’s nest. Ricky quickly waded into the refreshing water, scooping up the shivering, thoroughly chastised creature who immediately began licking his chin with grateful fervor. He couldn’t help but laugh at the entire ridiculous ordeal, carrying a dripping Ember Snow back to the safety of a dry towel, the precarious adventure finally over.
